This is a story told about former Soviet Union boss Nikita Khruschev.
The confrontational Communist, after being booted by the Central Committee, said he sat down and wrote two letters and left them in his desk. When successor Leonid Brezhnev took office, he found the two letters and a note Khrushchev had attached.
The note told Brezhnev that if he should find himself in a hopeless situation, he should open the first letter and follow the instructions. When he was tangled in a second hopeless situation, he must open the second letter.
Sure enough, Brezhnev got in some hot water and opened the first letter. It said: "Blame everything on me." Brezhnev did just that and it worked like a charm. Everyone agreed to blame the previous administration and life rolled on.
Later, Brezhnev was tangled in another political disaster and hurriedly ran to open the second letter for more superior guidance. That letter said:
"Sit down and write two letters."
One final question: How many letters does Obama get to open?
Pulled from 'Blaming the guy before Obama can work, but just for a while.'
