Throw more money at a problem - even if we don't have it! More contests!
And this on TOP of RTTT?!
Damn it, all the money in the world will not MAKE a student WANT to learn. It is said that the Detroit school system is one of the top recipients of tax dollars per student and is the worst school system in the United States. As one commenter stated, "We provide free education and if someone is not willing to do the work or is not capable of doing the work, all the money in the world won't change things."
Most of the $ is "likely bound for districts in large cities, such as Chicago and Los Angeles." Hmmm. In Missouri, most city schools have a higher per pupil expenditure than the rest of the districts, but the LOWEST performance.
And some of the hooks? "The more dramatic options include a "turnaround" model, which requires replacing a principaland half the school staff and setting up a new structure of school governance and instructional program. Another "restart" model calls for closing a school and reopening under charter management, while the "closure" model requires sending students to better schools in the district."
FAIL again!
