President Obama's Community Organizer Roots are Showing

I read an interesting article referencing BHO and Alinsky's Rule #12

Obama Failed to Master Alinsky

Not being versed in Alinsky, "Rules for Radicals," I found a synopsis here: Saul Alinsky

From the book: "What follows is for those who want to change the world from what it is to what they believe it should be. The Prince was written by Machiavelli for the Haves on how to hold power. Rules for Radicals is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away."

From Wikipedia: "Alinsky's teachings influenced Barack Obama in his early career as a community organizer on the far South Side of Chicago. Working for Gerald Kellman's Developing Communities Project, Obama learned and taught Alinsky's methods for community organizing."

12th Rule for community organizing: "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it. Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)"

Alinsky states: "..only question regarding the ethics of means and ends is, and always has been, "Does this particular end justify this particular means? Other rules for justification of ends & means:

  • The judgment of the ethics of means is dependent upon the political position of those sitting in judgment.
  • In war the end justifies almost any means.
  • Judgment must be made in the context of the times in which the action occurred and not from any other chronological vantage point.
  • Generally, success or failure is a mighty determinant of ethics.
  • The morality of a means depends upon whether the means is being employed at a time of imminent defeat or imminent victory.
  • You do what you can with what you have and clothe it with moral garments.
  • Goals must be phrased in general terms like "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity," "Of the Common Welfare," "Pursuit of Happiness," or "Bread and Peace."

Based on those last "rules," does BHO's tactics sound awfully similar (as well as

HCAN Fight Site on how to organize a meeting with your congressman)?
